Goldfield
Ghost Town as we now call it was once a real gold mining
boom town. It was between the Superstition Mountains and the
Goldfield Mountains, the settlement of Goldfield got its
start in 1892 when very rich, high grade gold ore was found
in the area. A town soon sprang up and in 1893 it was
established as a town.. By 1897 the town died, and in the
early 1900's it was started up again only to fail. In the
early 1940's the town was destroyed by fire.
Goldfield Ghost Town was recreated in the mid 1980's and
since then it has continued to grow to help keep the history
of Goldfield and the western boom towns alive.
Today, Goldfield is filled with authentic looking buildings,
includes underground mine tours, and the only narrow gauge
railroad in operation in Arizona. Numerous gift shops and
activities which include a bakery, a jail, livery, saloon,
ice cream shop, gold panning, reptile exhibit, photo shop,
shipping depot and much more. The authentic looking street
is filled with people in period costumes, horses and wagons,
and sometimes authentic gunfighter presentations.
